Green Synthesis and Biomedical Applications of Cu, Ag, and Au Nanocomposites: A Narrative Review

Author(s) Muthaiah Chintha
Country India
Abstract The green synthesis of Cu, Ag, and Au nanocomposites is a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical methods. It offers better biocompatibility and reduces environmental toxicity. This narrative review highlights recent advances in plant mediated, microbial, and biomolecule-assisted synthesis routes that serve as natural reducing and stabilizing systems for producing multifunctional metal nanocomposites. Emphasis is placed on how the structural, optical, and antimicrobial properties of these nanomaterials are influenced by eco-friendly synthesis conditions. Their biomedical applications including antimicrobial therapies, drug delivery, imaging, cancer theranostics, and wound healing are critically examined to show how green-engineered nanocomposites outperform many chemically synthesized counterparts in safety and therapeutic potential. The review also outlines existing challenges such as scalability, stability, and standardization of biological extract-based synthesis, while identifying future opportunities for integrating green nanotechnology with advanced biomedical platforms. Overall, this work underscores the promise of environmentally benign synthesis strategies in enabling next-generation metal nanocomposites for healthcare.
