Role of Medicinal Plants With Special  Reference to Indian Perspective

Abstract	The paper deals with various aspects of medicinal plants. It highlights the role of medicinal plants in general therapeutic properties of medicinal plants , traditional and modern medicines, wildlife and ecosystem with particular reference to Indian context in terms of treatment of diseases, economic, historical, geographical, trade, agriculture, industry, national income and employment, research and development, conservation and sustainability, uses of plants (medicine, plant defense, cosmetic, cultural and religious use, beverages, spices, food and nutrition) . It also highlights Research Institutes of India working on medicinal plants. A few challenges have been observed for medicinal plants in India and suggests strategies how to conserve medicinal plants for future generation.
