| Abstract | Hotels and resorts have dominated the lodging sector for decades. However, in the past decade, Airbnb has taken the world by storm, transforming from niche player to a mainstream player revolutionizing the global hospitality industry. Airbnb uniquely sits at the intersection of consumer behavior, technology, and demand for unique homely accommodations. This research paper discusses how Airbnb draws upon the concepts of consumer behavior, segmentation, product life cycle, sharing economy in their growth strategy, regional expansion strategy, revenue trends, customer loyalty, and impact on the economy. Market case studies discuss how Airbnb adapts to local conditions. While Airbnb is a competitor to hotels, it is a disruptive innovator that offers an alternate value proposition, and not a substitute to the hospitality industry although it does create new regulatory and social issues. Overall, Airbnb’s strategy discusses how it has become a significant and enduring player in the global hospitality industry. |
