Abstract Legal aid is a fundamental aspect of ensuring justice for all individuals, especially in a country as diverse and populous as India. This research paper examines the evolution, status, challenges, and prospects of legal aid in India. The paper explores the constitutional and statutory provisions, institutional mechanisms, and initiatives undertaken by the government and non-governmental organizations to provide legal assistance to marginalized and disadvantaged sections of society. Additionally, it analyzes the impact of legal aid in promoting social justice, empowering vulnerable communities, and strengthening the rule of law in India.
