Challenges in Interoperability of IoT Devices: Towards a Unified Standard

Author(s) Aqsa Sayed

Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming industries, enhancing automation, and improving daily life through inter-connected devices. However, as the IoT ecosystem expands, the interoperability between devices from different manufacturers remains a significant challenge. This paper examines the challenges that hinder IoT device interoperability, such as the variety of communication protocols, inconsistent data formats, security concerns, and the lack of a unified standard. We also explore ongoing efforts toward standardization, including popular communication protocols and industry initiatives, and argue for the need for a universal IoT standard. By addressing these challenges and promoting industry collaboration, we suggest a pathway to creating a unified IoT ecosystem that will foster greater device integration and more efficient functioning of connected systems
