Abstract Remote surgery using integrated medical devices has emerged as a transformative solution in healthcare, enabling surgical procedures to be conducted over long distances. However, addressing the challenges posed by latency and reliability is crucial for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and precision of such procedures. This paper explores the sources of latency and reliability issues in remote surgery systems, specifically focusing on robotic communication and control. Through case studies and theoretical analysis, the paper discusses the impact of these challenges and presents potential solutions, including optimized communication protocols, redundant systems, and integration improvements. The findings underscore the importance of addressing these challenges for the widespread adoption of remote surgery.
