Author(s) Vipan

Abstract India-Bangladesh relations have a strong foundation and have witnessed significant developments in mutual interest since Bangladesh's independence. The outstanding nature of bilateral ties is reflected in an all-encompassing partnership based on sovereignty, equality, trust and understanding. This paper examines the evolution of India-Bangladesh relations in the post-Cold War era, focusing on key political, economic, and security dimensions. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, the bilateral relationship underwent significant transformation, marked by both cooperation and contention. The study explores the impact of shifting regional dynamics, including the influence of global powers, on Indo-Bangladesh ties. Key areas of analysis include trade agreements, border management and water-sharing disputes. The paper also delves into the role of political leadership in shaping bilateral relations, as well as the changing public perception of each other’s policies. The paper concludes by assessing the prospects for a stable and mutually beneficial relationship in the context of a rapidly evolving regional and global order.
