Effect of Ocean Acidification on Crab Shells

Abstract This study examines the impact of ocean acidification on Gecarcoidea natalis shell mass by exposing shells to varying pH levels over 30 days. Results show a strong negative correlation between pH and shell mass retention, with the greatest loss at pH 3 . The findings highlight the harmful effects of acidic conditions on calcareous structures, emphasizing the ecological risks of ocean acidification and the need for mitigation strategies.
