Abstract | This review explores India’s indigenous bovine breeds, highlighting their genetic diversity, economic importance, and resilience to tropical diseases and harsh climates. These breeds play a vital role in rural economies by providing milk, meat, manure, and draught power, while also holding cultural and religious value. Despite their advantages, many native breeds have declined due to unprofitability and the shift towards mechanized agriculture. The review examines the distinctive features of different Indian cow breeds and their unique contributions to agriculture and society. |
