Abstract | Ventriculitis is a serious complication in pediatric neurosurgery, often associated with ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt procedures. This study explores ventriculitis's clinical, microbiological, and imaging characteristics and evaluates its prognosis and management strategies. Data were gathered from a cohort of pediatric patients with VP shunts who developed ventriculitis. Findings indicate that early diagnosis and targeted antimicrobial therapy are crucial for positive outcomes. However, a lack of standardized definitions and treatment protocols poses challenges to optimal care. The study recommends the adoption of unified criteria for ventriculitis diagnosis and further research to develop best-practice guidelines. |
