Analyzing Early Candlestick Formation as a Predictor of Momentum in Financial Markets

| Abstract | A fundamental aspect of candlestick analysis is the relationship between the candle’s body and its wicks. Large-bodied candles with minimal wicks often indicate strong directional momentum, whereas candles with long wicks suggest indecision or reversals. Traders generally rely on the final formation of a candlestick to make decisions; however, this study explores an underutilized aspect— the early formation stage of a candle. The hypothesis is that the initial moments after a candlestick opens can provide meaningful insights into its eventual direction and momentum, particularly in higher timeframes such as daily, weekly, and monthly charts. |
