Abstract The consumption of psychoactive substances has become the most common problem in India. These substances have affected people belonging to all age groups. This review paper has been drafted after conducting in-depth research from reports provided by drug bureaus, scholarly literature, polls, and other resources. This contains thorough research on the state of psychoactive substance abuse. This study discusses the trends and frequency of substance consumption across all age cohorts. It also highlights the concerns due to the increased demand for such substances and making children addicted, and the intricacies involved in managing adult substance abuse. Further exploring the relationship between psychoactive substances and organized crime, the study clarifies how these chemicals are used illegally. Through this exploration, the paper underscores the urgent need for multifaceted interventions to address the multidimensional challenges posed by psychoactive substance abuse in the country.
