Abstract | Abstract : The human body needs sufficient sleep to ensure optimal physiological, psychological and cognitive functions. Sleep loss can lead to numerous procedural mistakes, which can be harmful for the individuals. Inadequate sleep adversely impacts the nervous system, leading to inadequate brain function. Due to the cognitive impairment related to sleep loss, academic achievement is usually impaired. To minimize sleep deprivation, positive lifestyle and healthy sleep hygiene should be incorporated. For students, academic pressures can cause physiological stress, which potentially leads to poor sleep quality. Specifically, poor sleep quality, insomnia, and daytime sleepiness are reportedly common among college students. It is, therefore, imperative that the consequences of sleep deprivation among university students are further researched and interventions aimed at reducing the issue be extensively researched. This research employs a quantitative research method with an online questionnaire to explore the correlation between sleep deprivation and academic performance in college students aged between 18 and 25. Convenience sampling was employed in participant recruitment, ensuring easy and prompt data collection. This study seeks to shed light on how sleep deprivation affects academic performance among this particular population. |
