Abstract | Green computing, also referred to as sustainable computing, is an essential approach that emphasizes the environmentally responsible and energy-efficient utilization of computing resources. In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, where digital transformation is accelerating across industries, the energy consumption of data centers, personal computing devices, and large-scale IT infrastructures has increased exponentially. This rise in energy demand has contributed significantly to carbon emissions and environmental degradation, necessitating a shift towards greener and more sustainable computing practices. This paper explores various aspects of green computing, including energy-efficient hardware designs, software optimization techniques, and advanced power management methodologies that contribute to reducing overall power consumption. It highlights the role of cloud computing, virtualization, and edge computing in minimizing energy waste while maintaining high computational efficiency. Additionally, it examines strategies for reducing electronic waste (e-waste) by promoting the use of recyclable materials, extending device lifespans, and implementing responsible disposal methods. Furthermore, the study discusses the integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind energy, into computing infrastructures to achieve sustainability goals. The role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in optimizing resource allocation and improving energy efficiency is also analyzed. By adopting green computing practices, organizations and individuals can significantly lower their environmental impact while maintaining high performance and scalability. The ultimate goal of green computing is to balance technological advancements with ecological responsibility, ensuring that the digital era does not come at the cost of environmental degradation. |
