Abstract This study unravelled the lived experiences of physical therapy patients who participated in community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programs implemented by DRTREFI in Brgy. 98 Camansihay, Tacloban City from 2016-2022. Employing a hermeneutic phenomenological approach, this research aimed to understand the personal narratives and perceived impacts of these initiatives on patients' health and daily lives.
Through semi-structured interviews with 11 patients, utilizing purposive-snowball sampling, the study captured the multifaceted dimensions of their rehabilitation journey. Themes emerging from the data highlight the significance of accessibility, and mitigating personal barriers in enhancing the effectiveness of CBR programs. Patients reported improvements in physical & functioning aspects, psychological/emotional well-being, and
social & community engagement attributing to the program’s holistic approach. However, challenges such as limited resources, personal barriers, and program related issues were also identified. The findings suggest continuous evaluation and adaptation of CBR programs to address challenges and improve patient outcomes. This study contributes to the body of knowledge on CBR, providing valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare practitioners, and organizations aiming to develop and implement effective CBR strategies in similar contexts. The lived experiences of the patients
underscore the potential of well-structured CBR programs in enhancing quality of life for people with disabilities in underserved communities.
