Author(s) Dr. Ram Gopal Singh Baghel
Country India
Abstract This study examines the bamboo craft cottage industry in Dairy Farm, Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where over 25 Telugu-speaking families have sustained traditional bamboo craftsmanship for four decades. It explores the cultural transmission of skills, economic viability, environmental sustainability, and social empowerment offered by this labor-intensive, low-investment industry. Using field-based primary research, the paper highlights challenges including market access, health issues, and inconsistent income. It underscores the need for policy support, financial aid, and resource accessibility to ensure the sustainable development and preservation of this heritage craft and its role in inclusive local livelihoods.
