Abstract This study aims to analyze the rituals of the Marihatagnon community from four selected barangays in Marihatag, Surigao del Sur as a foundation for developing contextualized and interactive teaching materials. Through interviews and observations with elderly respondents, a total of twenty-five (25) rituals were documented, covering aspects of agriculture, health, spirituality, and social life.
Each ritual was examined based on its themes and meanings. The findings reveal that these rituals are deeply rooted in the community’s relationship with nature, faith, and unity. Items such as eggs, water, salt, and leaves carry symbolic meanings related to protection, abundance, and healing.
This research highlights the importance of integrating local knowledge into education to enhance learning and preserve indigenous culture.
Keywords Rituals, Marihatagnon, Kamayo, contextualization, local culture.
