| Abstract | We have described an efficient method for the synthesis of 1,2- disubstituted benzimidazole derivatives from various aldehydes and o-phenylenediamine using ethanol as a solvent using C-SO3H as a catalyst at reflux conditions. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR techniques. The thermally and chemically stable, metal free, functionalized green C-SO3H catalyst was obtained by in-situ partial carbonization and sulfonation of glycerol with sulfuric acid and the nature of the catalyst was confirmed by SEM, EDX and XRD techniques |
