Abstract | Background: Elderly patients constitute a growing proportion of ICU admissions and face high mortality. This study aimed to identify predictors of mortality in this vulnerable population. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the polyvalent ICU of CHU Hassan II between January 2020 and December 2021, including patients aged ≥65 years. Clinical, biological, and therapeutic data were analyzed. Multivariate logistic regression identified independent mortality predictors. Results: Among 102 patients (mean age 73.4 ± 6.1 years; 54% male), the mortality rate was 57.2%. Neurologic distress (35%), postoperative monitoring (21%), and polytrauma (16%) were leading causes of admission. Higher SOFA and APACHE II scores, presence of shock, acute kidney injury, and use of mechanical ventilation were independently associated with mortality (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Severity scores and organ dysfunction parameters are key predictors of mortality in elderly ICU patients. Early identification of these factors is essential to guide care decisions. |
