Abstract | Abstract: Tribal art, which is a type of fine art, bold, abstract patterns that draw inspiration from nature, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs. It is indigenous and reflects tribal lifestyle. Indian tribal communities have a rich cultural heritage with unique art, music and festivals. Social structure in these communities often emphasizes kinship, with distinct roles for family members and elders. Odisha is one of the most tribal concentrated states of India. The central and eastern highlands of India are dominated by Kondh tribes having unique cultural identities. Their traditional art and crafts include pottery, weaving, jewellery making music, dance forms etc. associated with festival rituals. Understanding these dynamics is vital for appreciating their unique cultural heritage and the challenges they face in modern society. The Kutia kondh tribe of south-western Odisha belong to the PVTGs or particularly venerable tribes of Odisha. The study of their art, craft and aesthetic life is a very interesting phenomena which would bring to light many hidden aspects of their cultural life. Hence the preservation, protection and documentation of the same is very essential in view of the rapid modernisation and acculturation process that is gradually putting them under threat. |
