Author(s) Engr. Harrisley Labicani Burigsay
Country Philippines
Abstract This study assesses the feasibility of developing a sustainable solid waste management (SWM) enterprise in Pudtol, Apayao. Employing a mixed-methods approach, it analyzes current SWM practices, waste generation patterns, community perceptions, and local infrastructure through household surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and secondary data. The research utilizes frameworks such as the integrated solid waste management (ISWM) and circular economy principles to evaluate technical, economic, social, and environmental aspects of potential enterprises including composting, eco-bricks, and charcoal briquetting. Findings indicate that these enterprises are viable with minor capacity-building interventions and initial equipment support, and they present opportunities for resource recovery and enhanced community participation. The study proposes a comprehensive SWM program integrating these sustainable practices, aiming to address environmental pollution, promote socioeconomic development, and foster local stakeholder engagement.
