Unani and Other Traditional System of Medicine: A Conceptual Comparative Analysis

Abstract The Unani System of Medicine is based on four humours and four basic elements. The composition of the human body as well as medicines is explained on the basis of certain seven fundamental principles called Umoor-e-Tabiyah they are ;( 1) Arkan (elements); (2) Mizaj (temperament); (3) Akhlat (humours) (4). Aza (organs) (5) Arwah (life spirit or vital breath). (6) Quwa (energy) and (7). Af’al (action). Siddha system of medicine shares in common with Ayurveda, Cure of illness is aim of all system of medicine, but Siddha system has in addition a concern for the immortality of the body. Emchi or Tibetan medicine which is prevalent among Buddhist population of Laddakh, Lahul, Leh, and Darjeeling has many similarities with Ayurveda system of medicine. Use of different types of mud, water, and sun-bath is the way of treatment in naturopathy, naturopathy is essentially a non-drug therapy. The primary aim of the various prescription in Yoga is to arrest the modification of citta or mind. Tantra is essentially the process of spiritual uplifting, the basic principles of homoeopathic are “LIKE CURES LIKE’’ & MINIMA MINIMUS.
