Abstract | ABSTRACT A study was conducted in Muzaffarpur district on 300 adolescent girls from rural and urban area to study the fast food consumption behaviour. One hundred fifty girls from Kurhani block representing rural area and 150 girls from Mushhari block representing urban area were selected. The consumption of chowmin was very high (79.33%) followed by egg roll (29.67%), pizza (19.67%), burger (9.00%) and French fries (6.00%). Hot dog, patties and doughnuts were less popular and consumed by 1.33 percent, 1.00 percent and 0.33 percent respectively. The consumer of medium portion of fast food was among 14.00 percent respondents in Mushahari block and 12.67 percent in Kurhani block. A total of 85.00 percent respondents were taking coffee/tea followed by the consumption of carbonated soft drink by 14.67 percent and energy drink by 0.33 percent respondents in the study area. The consumption of tea/coffee was higher (86.67%) in Kurhani block representing rural area than Mushahari block (83.33%) representing urban area. Carbonated soft drink was in consumption among 16.00 percent respondents of Mushahari block and 13.33 percent respondents among Kurhani block. There was no specific time for fast food consumption, hence they are not habitual. If adolescent girls are made aware about the harmful effect, the consumption of fast food may be reduced. |
