Abstract Malayalam movie industry (Mollywood) has made a tremendous progress in highlighting issues of women regarding identity, status, integrity and dignity. Therefore, this paper explores the elements and reflections of diaspora in the film, Ghaddama (2011) directed by Kamal. The film presents Aswathy, the woman protagonist and the housemaid in desertion as the representative of all the women migrants who feel displaced and alienated. The paper further
interrogates how women migrants who move to Saudi Arabia from various countries face several issues such as cultural shift, identity crisis, immigration, marginalization based on gender and domestic violence, presented in the film. The paper also analyses the plight of women workers in domestic fronts and their experiences in Saudi Arabia.
