Abstract This study aimed to create and assess the effectiveness of a lesson exemplar in improving the critical thinking abilities of 43 Grade 11 senior high school students at San Rafael National High School during the 2024-2025 academic year. The study aimed to determine the students' weakest critical thinking sub-skills and to create specific teaching resources to address these gaps. A mixed-methods approach, using a one-group pretest-posttest design, was employed to assess the impact of the intervention. The study found that while students demonstrated initial strengths in remembering and understanding, they showed lower proficiency in applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The lesson exemplar designed using the 7Es Learning Cycle Model, significantly improved students' ability to apply, analyze, and evaluate information. However, the gains in remembering and understanding were not statistically significant, and creating remained the lowest-performing skill. Based on the findings, the research offers numerous recommendations for stakeholders, teachers, and future studies, which include integrating additional interactive learning techniques, practical applications, and chances for critical assessment and creation in curriculum development. In addition, it highlights the necessity for ongoing evaluation and modification of teaching approaches to advance these essential skills. Additionally, it underscores the importance of targeted instructional methods to strengthen higher-order thinking skills, particularly in analysis, evaluation, and creation. Future research should explore more effective and innovative approaches to cultivating these skills in diverse educational contexts.
