Abstract | This study assessed the aquaculture industry's status, challenges, and sustainability in Panay Island, Region VI, Philippines, for Fiscal Year 2024. It examined productivity, environmental conditions, technology adoption, and government support, considering factors such as location, capitalization, culture methods, stocking density, farm size, and years in operation. A descriptive-correlational design was employed, using a researcher-made survey administered to 354 randomly selected brackish water fishpond operators from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson’s r. Results showed that the industry's status and sustainability levels were low, primarily due to challenges in technology adoption, environmental sustainability, and limited government support. Location and farm characteristics significantly affects productivity and sustainability. Significant relationships among status, challenges, and sustainability suggest that improving these areas is vital for long-term viability. The study concludes that barriers such as insufficient technological integration and weak institutional support hinder the industry's growth and sustainability. It recommends strengthening collaborative efforts among policymakers, agencies, and operators to promote innovation, sustainable practices, and enhanced support mechanisms. |
