Climate-Induced Migration from Bangladesh to Northeast India

Author(s) Lopamudra Parashar, Prof. Dr. Jagdish S. Joshi

Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamics of climate-induced migration from Bangladesh to Northeast India, focusing on the link between environmental degradation and human displacement. Floods, cyclones, droughts, riverbank erosion, and land degradation have all become significantly severe in Bangladesh as a result of climate change, which has had a significant impact on the stability of settlements and the livelihoods of the people who live in Bangladesh. Due to various socio-economic, political, and environmental factors, millions of people have been forced to migrate, frequently across international borders. By exploring the relationship between climate change and migration, this paper tries to see whether climate change in Bangladesh is one of the major factors in the influx of migrants in the northeastern region of India.
Keywords Climate Change, Migration, Bangladesh, Northeast India, Environmental Displacement, Human Security, Cross-Border Migration.
