Abstract | Hypertension remains a major public health issue, especially in underserved areas like southern Palawan. This study investigated the factors affecting non-adherence to antihypertensive medication among 151 adult patients from three private hospitals using the WHO's five adherence dimensions. Results showed moderate non-adherence levels, with 44.37% of patients moderately non-adherent and 26.49% highly or very non-adherent. Non-adherence was most common among older adults, males, employed individuals, and those with lower income. The strongest contributing factors were social/economic and patient-related issues. Significant associations were found between non-adherence and age, sex, employment, and income, but not with education or civil status. The study recommends targeted, context-specific interventions—such as patient education, financial assistance, and healthcare support—led by nurses and physicians, alongside policy efforts to improve access to medications and patient-centered care. |
