Preoperative Patients Anxiety in Selected Private Hospitals in Puerto Princesa City: Enhancement of the Existing Operating Room Manual.

Abstract Preoperative anxiety is a prevalent psychological response experienced by patients prior to undergoing surgical procedures. It can stem from various factors, including fear of the unknown, concerns about anesthesia, potential complications, and the outcome of surgery. This research focuses on Preoperative Patients Anxiety; anxiety could not only affect the psychological well-being of patients but also has physiological consequences, such as increased heart rate, blood pressure, and stress hormone levels, which may complicate anesthesia management and surgical outcomes. Hence, this research investigated the Preoperative Patients Anxiety in Selected Private Hospitals in Puerto Princesa City: Enhancement of the Existing Operating Room Manual. The non-experimental descriptive correlational research design was utilized to gather and analyses the data. The questionnaire was adapted and modified from the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), consists of 20 questions. This is a useful study tool for measuring anxiety associated with medical operations. According to the finding’s, there is significant relationship between age, sex, monthly income, type of surgery and the number of surgeries in to the anxiety levels of preoperative patients. The study reveals that the factors affecting the preoperative patient’s anxiety levels are surgical complications, duration and degree of disability, concerns about anesthesia, loss of control, fear of waking up during surgery and discomfort and pain. The study proposed an enhancement of existing operating room manual program to effectively manage the anxiety level of operative patients.
