Title: Between Realism and Reductionism: A Critical Examination of Noam Chomsky’s Interpretations of the Israel-Palestine Conflict

Author(s) Yamin Mohammad Munshi
Country India
Abstract This paper interrogates Noam Chomsky’s representations of the Israel-Palestine conflict through the lens of political realism, historical contingency, and structural critique. While Chomsky’s prolific output on the subject has undeniably shaped intellectual discourse, his reductionist framing of Zionism, American imperialism, and Palestinian agency warrants reassessment. Drawing from a cross-disciplinary palette—including political science, history, and postcolonial theory—this essay challenges the moral binaries and causal compressions that characterize much of Chomsky’s narrative, without dismissing his contributions to dissident historiography. By situating Chomsky’s critique within a broader intellectual context, this work argues for a more dialectical approach that balances realism with moral accountability and respects the complexity of the actors involved.
