Abstract | This study compared physiological parameters between midget (10-12 years) and sub-junior (13-15 years) male badminton players. Thirty players (15 per age group) were assessed for systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), and maximal oxygen consumption (VO₂ max) estimated via the multistage fitness test. Results revealed significant differences between groups in all parameters. Sub-junior players demonstrated higher SBP (p<0.001), DBP (p<0.05), PEFR (p<0.001), and VO₂ max (p<0.001) compared to midget players. Correlation analysis showed moderate relationships between age and PEFR (r=0.78) and between age and VO₂ max (r=0.81). These findings highlight important physiological differences between age categories in youth badminton players, suggesting that training programs and performance expectations should be adjusted accordingly for each developmental stage. The study provides valuable reference data for coaches and sports scientists working with youth badminton players. |
