Abstract | Ocular surface diseases, including dry eye, uveitis, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration, are a significant cause of visual impairment and blindness worldwide. These conditions are complex and multifactorial, involving various risk factors such as age, genetics, and environmental factors. Dry eye disease, characterized by inflammation and damage to the ocular surface, is a prevalent condition affecting millions of people globally. Uveitis, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration are other significant ocular surface diseases that can lead to severe visual impairment if left untreated. Understanding the anatomy of the eye, including the eyelid and ocular surface, is crucial in diagnosing and managing these conditions. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of ocular surface diseases, their risk factors, and treatment. We discuss the importance of preoperative ocular surface evaluation and the role of inflammation in ocular surface diseases. A thorough understanding of these conditions is essential for developing effective treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes. |
