Abstract | This study examines the effectiveness of skill development initiatives under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in Assam, focusing on the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP). A survey of 200 rural youth participants was conducted to assess the impact of these programs on employability and entrepreneurship. The findings indicate significant improvements in technical skills, soft skills, and overall confidence among participants. Many beneficiaries secured employment or initiated entrepreneurial ventures, contributing to local economic growth. However, challenges such as limited placement opportunities, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of financial resources hindered the full realization of these programs' potential. The study recommends policy interventions to strengthen industry linkages, enhance infrastructure, provide financial support, and tailor training programs to sector-specific needs. Addressing these challenges is crucial to maximizing the impact of skill development initiatives and fostering sustainable economic development in Assam. |
