Abstract This research paper examines the concept of crime, its key components, and the classification of crimes and offenders within a criminological framework. It looks at the root causes, including economic, social, psychological, and cultural factors, that lead to criminal behaviour, particularly in India. The study also highlights effective strategies for preventing crime, such as legal reform, education, community involvement, and rehabilitation. A complete approach is emphasised to ensure justice and public safety.
