Author(s) Ms. Indira A, Prof. Mangaiyarkarasi V
Country India
Abstract The gig economy is expanding and increasing the employment opportunities for women because its nature is favourable, and it is based on flexible, temporary or freelance work that often involves contact with customers or clients through a digital application. It highlights that alternative work arrangements in the gig economy can attract more women and increase their participation in the workforce. It is also playing a prominent role in women's empowerment. However, women gig workers often face threats and challenges to their security, as well as limited access to social and legal protections regarding the time and place of their work. This exploratory study used the case study method to analyse the specific conditions that cater to women’s inclusion, lack of provisions for safety and security and uncertainties faced by the women gig workers in the workplace.
