USER PERCEPTION OF ARTIFICIAL I INTELLIGENCE IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES: A STUDY

Abstract This study aims to explore how users perceive the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic libraries. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey, with 1186 questionnaires distributed to patrons of academic libraries; 968 were fully answered. Of these, 81.61% were returned. The study focuses on the goals and value of Artificial Intelligence in libraries, as reported by users from higher education institutions in Dindigul District. The top priority identified by users was "Improved Information Retrieval." Additionally, faculty members shared their perspectives on the application of Artificial Intelligence in library services. The fourth and fifth most preferred uses of Artificial Intelligence were "Automating Processes and Optimising Collection Management" and "Predictive Analysis" in academic librarianship.
