Barriers to Quality Education in Tribal Communities: a Study of Accessibility, Infrastructure, and Teacher Availability in Jharkhand

Abstract | This research explores the significant challenges faced by tribal communities in Jharkhand in accessing quality education. Despite numerous government initiatives, educational outcomes among tribal populations remain disproportionately low due to a combination of structural and systemic barriers. The study focuses on three core issues: limited accessibility to schools, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified teachers. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes both primary data from questionnaires and secondary sources such as government reports and existing literature, the research highlights how geographic isolation, socio-economic disadvantages, and cultural disconnects contribute to low enrollment, poor retention, and substandard learning environments. The paper also examines the gaps in policy implementation and evaluates the role of government and non-governmental organizations in addressing these challenges. It concludes by offering targeted recommendations aimed at creating inclusive, well-resourced, and culturally responsive educational systems that can better serve tribal communities and bridge the educational divide. |
