Abstract Introduction: CAUTI is one of the commonest types of infection that are acquired in hospitals. Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is a well-recognized source of increased morbidity and economic burden in acute care services. Presence of an indwelling urinary catheter is the main risk factor for catheter associated urinary tract infection. Urinary catheterization is a common management option for bladder dysfunction. The incidence of UTI that increased during hospitalization is usually associated with catheterization procedures, and possibly from inadequate catheter care.
Aim: The main aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of planned nursing intervention on knowledge regarding prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infection among nursing officers.
Materials and Methods: A Pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for the study. 30 nursing officers were selected by using non-probability convenient sampling technique. Data was collected by self-administered structured questionnaire.
Result: The result of the study shows that in the pre-test the mean pain score was 4.23, with standard deviation of 1.12 and mean % 42.3, whereas in the post-test mean pain score was 0.95 with standard deviation of 1.03 and mean % 9.5. The effectiveness of mean % was 32.8. This reveals that the extension exercise was effective in reducing the low back pain among staff nurses.
Conclusion: It was concluded that the planned nursing intervention on knowledge regarding prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infection among nursing officers was effective.
