Abstract | Autonomous Weapons System refers to that technology where the weapons may be automated depending on the degree of automation. Though today it has been widely deliberated regarding its legal and ethical implications, the fact that since ancient times humans have resorted to the use of automated mechanisms in order to facilitate their functions. With the rapid boom in the Artificial Intelligence technology, the collaboration of AI along with Autonomous Weapons have resulted in the technology of fully autonomous weapons system which requires no human intervention. This paper purely focuses on the evolution of Autonomous Weapons System since ancient times to the present. |
