Abstract | Paraquat is a toxic chemical that is widely used as a herbicide (plant killer), primarily for weed and grass control. Paraquat (1, r-dimethyl-4,4’-bipyridium dichloride), a brown syrupy liquid is an effective herbicide that has low chronic toxicity due to its quick inactivation upon contact with soil [1]. Paraquat poisoning can be extremely harmful and frequently fatal. It is one of the most frequently used herbicides in the agricultural sector, but cases of its misuse in India are rarely reported [1]. Most cases of agricultural and horticultural poisoning reported in the United states, but paraquat poising had the highest mortality rate, accounting 13% of all fatal cases [2]. Paraquat is classified by the WHO as a Class II, had moderate dangerous pesticide with widely use today. Paraquat is one of the pesticides most frequently used to commit suicide [3]. When paraquat poisoning occur, lung is a primary target organ and respiratory failure from lung damage is the most common cause of death. Early diagnosis and initiation of treatment are crucial. In these article we presented a case of survival from paraquat poisoning along with its clinical features, pathophysiology and management of paraquat poisoning [4]. |
