Eco-narratives of Sense of Self and Sense of Place: A Study of Place Identity and Cultural Mythscapes in Select Northeast writings

Author(s) Lal rem tluangi
Country India
Abstract Identity, concerning the people of Northeast India, imperatively entails discussions on the dynamics of place and culture, with relations to environmental psychology, psychogeography and socio-cultural dialectics. These interactive dynamics integrate temporal, spatial and cultural strands of conception or perception, impacting how these people create meaning of their past, present and future. Accordingly, social and cultural processes that contribute to the construction and comprehension of place impact patterns of identification and sense of belongingness. This paper studies Legends of Pensam (2006) and Sky is my Father: A Naga Village Remembered (2018) as its primary texts to study the sense of significance and value attached to place originating from socio-ecological dialectics disseminated in culture, society and place.
