Freshwater Ciliates as Predators and Prey: A Seasonal Exploration of Trophic Relationships

Country | India |
Abstract | Freshwater ciliates play a vital role in aquatic ecosystems as both predators and prey, influencing trophic relationships and ecosystem function. They feed on bacteria, algae, and other microorganisms, while being consumed by larger organisms like zooplankton and fish. Environmental factors such as nutrient availability, water temperature, and habitat structure shape ciliate communities. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for managing freshwater ecosystems and appreciating the importance of ciliates in maintaining ecological balance. |
