This article explores the themes of identity, migration, and freedom in Sunjeev Sahota’s China Room, through the parallel lives of Mehar in 1929 Punjab and her great-grandson in 1990s England. It highlights the lasting impact of gender inequality, colonial legacy, and the enduring struggle for belonging across generations.
