Knowledge on Post-partum Psychosis among Females at Selected Areas of Digboi

| Abstract | Background: The Post-partum Psychosis is an illness with a under rated but serious mental illness that can develop between 1 to 3 months of delivery. It can cause major changes in mood and behavior.1 The estimated global prevalence of Post-partum Psychosis is 0.089 to 2.6 per 1000 births, 2 Objectives: The objectives of the study was to assess knowledge on post-partum psychosis among females (20-60 years) at selected areas of Digboi, Assam. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study with quantitative research approach was carried out with the help of self-structured interview questionnaire on Post-partum psychosis; data were collected from 50 females selected through non-probability convenient sampling technique. Results: The result of the study showed that among 50 females, majority of females 33(66%) had moderate knowledge, 10(20%) had an adequate knowledge and 7 (14%) had inadequate knowledge on Post-partum psychosis. Conclusion: The researcher came to conclusion that awareness must be created among the public about prevention & treatment of Post-partum psychosis. |
