Abstract | The accounting profession is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation. This research explores how these technologies are fundamentally reshaping traditional accounting roles, moving professionals from routine data processors to strategic advisors. It delves into the core digital tools—from Generative AI and Robotic Process Automation to advanced data analytics and cloud platforms—highlighting their significant benefits in boosting efficiency, enhancing security, and driving cost savings. The paper also critically examines the challenges inherent in this shift, including the crucial need for upskilling, managing job evolution, ensuring data privacy, and addressing ethical considerations like AI bias. Ultimately, it envisions the 'augmented accountant' of the future: a professional who seamlessly blends financial acumen with digital fluency, equipped to lead and innovate in a rapidly evolving financial landscape. |
