Author(s) Ms. Sitora Mavlanova

Abstract This article discusses UNESCO’s involvement in the protection of Uzbekistan’s historical and cultural heritage sites. The cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Shakhrisabz are among the most ancient and historical sites in Uzbekistan. UNESCO’s work to protect the tangible and intangible heritage of Uzbekistan has preserved the historical image of its ancient sites and increased the country’s tourism potential. In general, as a result of this Convention, historical sites have been protected and preserved all over the world. These historical sites are, in fact, the spiritual property of all peoples. However, in recent years, accelerated urbanization, industrialization of cities, severe air pollution and armed conflicts in some regions have damaged the heritage sites located in these areas and put their existence at risk.
Keywords natural and cultural heritage, world heritage list, non-governmental organizations, social partnership, tourism, UNESCO.
