Internet as a learning tool to UG students: A Study in Hailakandi District

Abstract The Internet is a good source of the updated information of the surroundings. The Internet is a medium of learning process for students as it acts as an interface to easily obtain the information they require. The internet provides a massive storage place of information that allows students to access the vast collection of academic resources. The aim of this study is to investigate the use of internet as learning tool by students for improving the depth knowledge about a particular topic or area of interest as well as to simplify the knowledge. The study attempted to examine the different mediums of internet that are used in the process of academic activities and knowledge acquisition. The Descriptive Survey method which includes surveys and mixed data analysis combining qualitative and quantitative approaches is used in this study to measure the attitude of students towards use of internet and aware of search engine for accessing information. The investigators developed a questionnaire considering the objectives of the study. The purposive sampling technique is used by the investigators for data collection and an item wise tabular analysis is done by the researcher for interpretation of data. From the study it is revealed that majority of the undergraduate students opined that they have very good internet access and hence implied that student use internet for the academic purpose without much difficulty. The study also reveals that internet has lot of application ranging from entertainment to knowledge gatherings and enormous populace of the undergraduate students access social networking site but do not use social networking site for academic activities only. The students should have some balancing attitude while accessing social media and should be a healthy balance between the amount of time spent on internet and the study schedule.
