Abstract | Pivotal in shaping the trajectories of national development is the demographic dividend,or the period of accelerated economic growth in a country as its population becomesmore heavily concentrated in the working-age group. We examine these two advancedeconomies, New Zealand and Australia, which have different but related demographictrajectories of ageing. The objective of this study is to examine the extent to which thetwo nations utilized the demographic transitions to promote economic growth, whileidentifying the major policy responses and challenges faced by them in realizing thepotential dividend. |
