Empowering Women through Awareness and Counseling: A Survey on Screening and Sensitization for Anemia on World Population Day

Abstract Background: Anaemia is a major public health concern among women of reproductive age, leading to fatigue, weakness, and complications during pregnancy, including low birth weight and increased maternal morbidity and mortality1. Materials and methods: This study was conducted among 71 women aged 15–40 years attending Dr B R Sur Homoeopathic Medical College, New Delhi on World Population Day to assess haemoglobin levels, evaluate awareness of anaemia, and provide information including nutritional counselling, and family planning counselling. Results: it revealed that 79% of participants were anaemic, with 27% mild, 48% moderate, and 4% severe cases. Most participants lacked knowledge regarding anaemia causes, symptoms, and prevention. Nutritional counselling emphasized iron-rich foods, balanced diets, and proper meal practices. Contraceptive counseling on family planning methods. Conclusion: The study highlights the urgent need for awareness programs, nutritional education, and preventive measures to reduce anaemia among women of reproductive age.
