Abstract This study investigates the level of awareness and accessibility of government sports schemes—particularly the Khelo India Programme, Fit India Movement, and state-level initiatives—among rural female students in Punjab. Using the institutional perspective of Mata Sundri Girls College, Dhade, Bathinda, the paper examines key barriers such as inadequate information dissemination, lack of trained faculty, limited infrastructure, and socio-cultural constraints. Relying on secondary data sources, policy documents, and departmental observations, it outlines the role of educational institutions in bridging the gap between policy and participation. The study concludes with targeted recommendations for awareness programs, curriculum integration, and infrastructural improvements to foster higher participation of rural women in sports.
Keywords Khelo India, Fit India, rural female students, women in sports, Punjab sports policy, sports awareness, physical education, grassroots sports development
